NFL Draft, NFL Trade Rumors, Scouting Reports & More

Today the Browns organization made the Dolphins organization look stable

Both the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns were having the roughest time filling out their personnel because no one wanted to work there. There were reports that six plus coaches turned down the Cleveland Browns position before the team interviewed and fell in love with Mike Pettine.  Pettine was a former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator that had the Bills in the top 10 total for defense.  Well, the Dolphins had the same problem trying to find a General Manager, after former GM Jeff Ireland was fired.

The Dolphins hired Dennis Hickey as their GM who was previously with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  When this move happened the former Pro Personnel director who was the leader most of the off-season for the next GM spot, decided to part ways.  The Dolphins are finally set and have an entire personnel group today, and we thought that was the case for the Browns as well, but that was not the case.

A week before the NFL scouting combine, Owner Jimmy Haslam made a splash that no one saw coming.  Today he fired Mike Lombardi his General Manager, and his CEO Joe Banner re-signed.  When this happened Haslam replaced his GM with Ray Farmer, who was one of the candidates that turned down the Dolphins position.  Well Haslam gave Farmer the right to the 53 man roster, which was not a surprise, but the did say there would no longer be a CEO.  It sounds like a crazy move, but we shall see how it plays out.

The sad thing is Mike Pettine who was hired as the head coach was not Farmer’s coaching choice.  So if he doesn’t right the ship in the first year he could be the third coach canned after one season with the Browns.  If that doesn’t make a Dolphins fan smile, I don’t know what else will. Dolphins fans, remember their is always someone in a worse predicament than yourself, in this case it is definitely the BROWNS….
