Oregon will not pay for Marcus Mariota’s insurance policy

mariotaTexas A&M lured top offensive linemen Cedric Ogbuehi back to College Station by using the NCAA’s Student Assistance Fund to cover his insurance premiums. Baylor is also using the fund to pay for a portion of the policy for three of their top NFL Draft prospects. Florida State reportedly is using the fund to cover Jameis Winston’s $55,000+ premiums.

According to CBSSports.com’s Jeremy Fowler, Oregon won’t be covering Marcus Mariota’s insurance premiums in the same fashion.

This sounds a little strange, but I am assume Oregon feels the Hawaii native will leave after his 2014 season.  I think it is strange, but Oregon does have the upper hand here in this case.  Mariota is a top draft pick regardless, but if Mariota didn’t like the decision he would have to leave and go down to an FCS school, which is not in his best interest.  It sounds crazy, but the other schools are likely paying for those insurance policies just to keep the players at the school. Using it as leverage more than anything else.  Is it right?
