Mock DraftsNFL Draft

NFL Draft Diamonds Small School Mock Draft 2.0

Qua Cox, Jimmy Garoppolo and Tim Flanders have all been in my top small schooler lists since the beginning of the year, but where do they end up in our small school mock?

FIRST ROUND MOCK DRAFT

  1. Houston (2-12) – Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois – Jimmy G has very good poise, and while many say he is a product of a system, I have to disagree. His production continues to rise and after winning the Walter Payton Award, he is the best small school player right now.
  2. St. Louis – from Washington (3-11) – Pierre Desir, CB, Lindenwood – 6’1, 205 pound athlete, who loves to play in both man coverage and zone. He has great hands and is a very mature kid for his age.
  3. Jacksonville (4-10) – Jeff Janis, WR, Saginaw Valley State – Jeff is the best wide receiver in this draft class. “White Lightning” is no joke, this kid ran a 4.3 forty at his junior pro day, STUPID FAST for a white boy. It will be nice to see him in the Senior Bowl.
  4. Oakland (4-10) – Terrence West, RB, Towson Terrence is only a junior but if he does come out, which I am hearing he is considering, expect him to be drafted relatively high for a small schooler.
  5. Cleveland (4-10) – Billy Turner, OT, North Dakota State – 6’6 versatile lineman with tons of power, and range. I believe Turner has the potential to play both inside and outside. I like his heart, and passion for the game. That is impressive to me.
  6. Atlanta (4-10) – Joe Don Duncan, TE, Dixie State – Duncan’s production is nasty, and he will get a shot to perform at the Senior Bowl.  He was originally supposed to play in the East/West Shrine game, but later pulled out with the invite to the Senior Bowl.
  7. Tampa Bay (4-10) – Dakota Dozier, OG, Furman – Dakota held his own against LSU and has great size and speed. Remember his name, Dakota is a very special/versatile lineman.
  8. Minnesota (4-9-1) – Jeff Matthews, QB, Cornell – Jeff is the best small school quarterback when it comes to skills. He has the best release, arm strength and talent, but he doesn’t have much help in Cornell.
  9. Tennessee (5-9) – Tim Flanders, RB, Sam Houston State – Tim is the most complete back for small schoolers. He is a faster Miguel Maysonet, this kid has been on the Walter Payton Award list consecutive years, and was a former D1 back.
  10. Buffalo (5-9) – Kadeem Edwards, OG, Tennessee State – This 6’4, 313 pound big man is the best offensive lineman in the OVC. They lost their entire offensive line last year at Tennessee State but it didn’t matter. This kid is a freak.
  11. New York Giants (5-9) – Caraun Reid, DT, Princeton – Caraun could have been a fourth rounder if he came out this year, with another year under his belt, he could be a steal of this draft.
  12. Pittsburgh (6-8) – Marcus Williams, CB, North Dakota State – Marcus has good cover skills, but is rated a little higher than I would expect. He seems to always be around the ball, and was great this year.
  13. New York Jets (6-8) – Jordan Tripp, LB, Montana – Jordan is a very solid pass rusher, with great awareness. He will be at the Senior Bowl this year and is a big time playmaker.  Expect him to shine in Mobile.
  14. St. Louis (6-8) – Matt Hall, OT, Belhaven University – Matt Hall did not allow one sack this year for Belhaven.  Matt was a transfer from Ole Miss, and is huge. At 6’10, 310 pounds he would make an amazing right tackle.
  15. Detroit (7-7) – Ethan Westbrooks, DE, West Texas A&M – Ethan Westbrooks reminds me a lot of Ryan Davis from Bethune-Cookman a few years ago, but a quicker version. He understands the game, very solid against the run.
  16. Dallas (7-7) – Larry Webster, DE, Bloomsburg – 6’6, 240 pound athletic freak of nature. Larry is a converted basketball center, who has great family genes. His father was a former standout for the Ravens.
  17. San Diego (7-7) – Tyler Starr, OLB, South Dakota – This long haired Warrior reminds me of Clay Matthews.  He is a force on the outside, has great size at 6’5 and hits with a “Thunder Stick”.
  18. Green Bay (7-6-1) – A.C Leonard – TE, Tennessee StateA.C. was a former Florida Gator and top 100 high school recruit. He has already declared for the NFL draft and should be considered a steal.
  19. Miami (8-6) – Matt Hazel, WR, Coastal Carolina – Matt Hazel has been tearing up his division for a while, but for whatever reason, he is not getting any credit.
  20. Arizona (9-5) – Lawrence Virgil, DT, Valdosta State – This massive wall will shine in his all star game. He has a crazy motor for a big guy, and is an amazing person.  His stock is flying right now.
  21. Philadelphia* (8-6) – Zach Moore, DE/LB, Concordia State – Zach Moore is a very solid small school player who could not be blocked. He had 14 sacks and 20 tackles for loss.
  22. Chicago* (8-6) – Matt Armstrong, OC, Grand Valley State – Matt is s a very solid prospect that is coming off a huge season. He is a very versatile player with great strength.
  23. Baltimore* (8-6) – Jon Brown, WR, Pittsburg State – The kid is amazing on film.  At his junior pro day he ran a blazing 40 time.  Scouts are in love with this kid, they see him as a top 200 player.
  24. Cleveland – from Indianapolis* (9-5) – Qua Cox, CB, Jackson State – Qua is the most confident corner in this draft. He is the best corner on an island, and will be able to glove a super star wide out. Cox reminds a lot of Josh Norman, but with better skill sets.
  25. Cincinnati* (9-5) – Walt Aikens, CB, Liberty – Aikens could be the most athletic player in the entire 2014 NFL Draft. Walt Aikens is a basketball/football player, who is a highlight reel. He transferred from Illinois, but just check out this kid’s “Dunk Contest” videos on YouTube, WOW.
  26. Carolina* (10-4) – Fabian Truss, OW, Samford – I have to put this kid in my mock draft, he has been tearing up teams this year. He is the most explosive player in the FCS.  I love his play, and he can help at the RB position.
  27. San Francisco* (10-4) – Zach Bauman, RB, Northern Arizona – Zach has really impressed me this year, his hard down-hill running is exactly what the NFL needs.
  28. Kansas City* (11-3) – Lynden Trail, DE/OLB, Norfolk State – Lynden is only a junior as well and another former Florida Gator. He was a stand out for NSU.  He played both tight end and OLB. He has great hands and is a freak athlete.
  29. New England* (10-4) – Eric Pike, OT, Towson – The monster Pike is a force on the outside. He has a very good first step and does not allow many sacks. He has been a starter since he was a freshman, very solid.
  30. New Orleans* (10-4) – Matt Feiler, OT, Bloomsburg – Feiler is the second Bloomsburg kid that is going to make a name for himself this draft season.  He is getting tons of love from NFL scout.
  31. Denver* (11-3) – Brandon Dixon, CB, NW Missouri – This kid is very talented, both him and his brother lock down opponents for NW. I love this kids tenacity though, He is very aggressive.
  32. Seattle* (12-2) – Jeremy Butler, WR, Tennessee-Martin, This kid is under the radar right now. No one is talking about him, they are too busy talking about Erik Lora, but this kid could be the best all-around wide out in the FCS.
