New Orleans Saints re-structured Keenan Lewis contract

The New Orleans Saints have been pretty crafty with their entire cap situation lately, landing Jairus Byrd, to a monster deal earlier this month. Well now the team has saved even more money according to Larry Holder of NOLA.com.

The Saints shifted some money around for Lewis to give the team $1.2 million in cap savings in 2014 and $1 million in savings for 2015. The team turned $2.1 million into bonus money in 2014 to spread the cap hit.

Lewis’ base salary dropped to $1 million in 2014 (originally $3.3 million in 2014) and $1.8 million in 2015 (originally $4.1 million in 2015). Lewis’ cap numbers in 2016 and 2017 will hold an increase of $1.1 million in each season because of the restructuring.
