NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Report: Keyso Moss, DL, Missouri S&T

Keyso Moss is a tough player with tenacity
  • Keyso Moss, DT/FB. Missouri S&T
  • Height: 6’1″
  • Weight: 290 lbs.
  • Hometown: Anderson, SC.
Pros: Fast and explosive off the line. Plays with an aggression and pursues as fast as he can. Good swim move that keeps offensive lineman away from getting hands on him. Knows how to set up the opponent and attack. Keeps an eye on the ball and doesn’t bite on play fakes. Seems to have a very good understanding of what the offense is trying to do. Has taken on double teams and won. Doesn’t hesitate and goes full force. More than just a pass rusher, shows versatility to go into zone coverage and even as a blocking full back.
Cons: Some balance issues, sometimes trips up so will have to have more control in footwork. Makes a lot of diving attempts which could result in missed tackles at the next level. In leverage he sometimes plays too high. Must work on lower body strength. While he’s fierce and fires after the ball, he sometimes plays too wild and can lose balance. Needs to improve his bull rush move.
Overall: Moss plays with the tenacity you want in a defensive tackle. He explodes and attacks lineman by either setting them up or attacking their hands. There are some technique things that Moss must clean up, mainly the balance issue. But there’s a great deal of potential in a guy like him. While teams are looking for the next Geno Atkins or Aaron Donald, Moss’ game seems to be inspired by them. He’s been versatile and does whatever the team asks him to, whether on offense or defense. He possesses great football knowledge and doesn’t get confused. If Moss can continue to work on technique with his footwork, he could very well be a small school gem for a team.
