Jay Gruden might opt out of interviewing for the Lions job
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports Detroit was among four teams to ask the Cincinnati Bengals for an interview with their offensive coordinator. Washington, Minnesota and Tennessee were the others.
Gruden told local reporters on Monday he was unsure whether he would interview with the Lions, but does expect to speak with Minnesota, Tennessee and Washington.
Gruden cut his teeth in the Arena Football League, where he won six championships as a quarterback and was voted one of the five greatest players in the league’s history.
He got his coaching start there, too, coordinating the offense for the Nashville Kats in 1997 before taking the head job with the Orlando Predators from 1998-2001. Then he returned from 2004-2009 with the Predators.
