Formations Fantasy Football Review: New England Patriots

The New England Patriots continue to be the AFC East juggernaut. The team is filled with stars like Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. However, there are others on this team that can help your fantasy team. Here’s a look at a few.

Star: Julian Edelman (WR)

13 Stats: 105 catches-1056 yards-6 TDs

Why He’s a Star: Edelman filled the Wes Welker role for Tom Brady and the Patriots last year and surprised fantasy players everywhere. No surprises this year, as Edelman is a top 20 WR. While he may not reach 100 catches again, he should come close to all of the other numbers above.

Avoid: Danny Amendola (WR)

13 Stats: 54 catches-633 yards-2 TDs

Why to Avoid: Amendola was supposed to fill the Welker role in New England but was unseated by the above-mentioned Edelman. He can be a tremendous slot receiver, but there are numerous weapons on this team. Also, Amendola lives on the injury report. He has missed 24 games in the past three seasons. I would be surprised if he surpassed any of his stats from 2013.

Sleeper: Shane Vereen (RB)

Why He’s A Sleeper: Vereen is poised to have a breakout year if he can stay healthy. He has missed 24 games over the past three seasons, but is a fantastic PPR running back when playing. He may not rush for over 600 yards, but he may have up to 750 yards receiving. Vereen is someone to have on your roster if you play in a PPR league.

IDP to Watch: Chandler Jones (DL)

3 Stats: 40 tackles-39 assists-11.5 sacks

Why: For a DL, the numbers above are eye-popping. The sack number is great, but what really catches my eye are the tackle numbers. This will only be Jones third year in the NFL. It is possible that his numbers in tackles and sacks will increase again this year.
