Fantasy Football Overdose features their key signings this year in Free Agency

Key Signings during the NFL free agency

Most of the teams around the league are busy signing new players during the offseason as the 2014 NFL Draft is approaching. This free agency period has been one of the most hectic offseason ever in the history of NFL. Several teams around the league have already made a number of high profile signings which will impact the start of the new NFL season. The hunt for players is not over yet as the 2014 NFL Draft is still nearly a month away.

Never before we have seen such a busy offseason and judging by the activities going on no one can say that this is just the middle of the offseason. The past several weeks have been the busiest ones, although the new signings will significantly decrease after the draft night. NFL teams have made some clever moves that will boost their chances for the upcoming season.

Below we list some of the top free agent signings.

Miami Dolphins:

The Miami Dolphins have made two notable signings till now.

Knowshon Moreno

Knowshon Moreno was inked by Miami last Friday. The dominant running back recorded a wonderful season with the Denver Broncos last year but the Broncos let him go. Up to now it is still unclear whether the Broncos wanted to let him go because he wasn’t in their plans for the next year or the player himself was after more money. No matter what the reason was for his departure, Moreno will undoubtedly become an important part of Miami’s offense in 2014.

Branden Albert

Branden Albert is the second high profile signing by Miami, Albert has finally arrived this season to Miami. He was a target of the Dolphins last season but the former Kansas City player could not make the switch last year. Albert’s signing gives a much needed boost to Miami’s offensive line although there is some room for improvement at the front.

New Orleans Saints

Champ Bailey

The Saints have managed to bag in Champ Bailey on a two – year deal. Bailey was released by his former team, the Denver Broncos as he was not part of their plans for 2014. Bailey had a rough season with the Broncos mainly due to injuries that reduced his time last season. This move can prove out to be a superb signing if Bailey remains healthy throughout the season, as nobody can doubt his potential when he is on the pitch.

PittsburghSteelers

LaGarrette Blount

Pittsburgh made their latest signing on Friday by acquiring the services of LeGarrette Blount. The player was released by the New England Patriots at the start of offseason. He may not be the very best back available in the market but he is definitely a powerful player, who proved his worth last season.

Lance Moore

Pittsburgh took a quick action after losing Jerricho Cotchery by signing free agent Lance Moore. The Steelers signed him for a two year contract on Friday. Moore is a proven wide receiver that has been effective for the most part of his football career. Pittsburgh will definitely benefit from his services on the wings.

Carolina Panthers

Jerricho Cotchery

The Panthers have proved out to be very sluggish when it comes to keeping a hold onto their most important players. Over the course of 1 year they have lost three main offensive players but the fans may get a sigh of relief after the signing of Jerricho Cotchery. The former Pittsburgh man signed for the Panthers this week. The 31 year-old wide receiver is an important signing but not enough to fully satisfy the fans of the team.

Dallas Cowboys

Henry Melton

The Dallas Cowboys have swooped Henry Melton, who was previously released by the Chicago Bears. He was one of the very few top notch players that were available during free agency. Melton was persuaded by the fact that his former employees have recognized Rod Marinelli as their chief defensive coordinator. Rod and Henry were former team mates in the 2012 season, playing for the Chicago Bears.

Brandon Weeden:

Brendon Weeden gets a much needed chance to revive his career as he signed a two year deal with the Dallas Cowboys. The30 year old Weeden will compete for the backup duty as he signed on the veteran’s minimum. His rival will be Kyle Orton, who is expected to announce retirement soon.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos have been the most active team on the market, as they have made a total of three significant signings up to now.

DeMarcus Ware

Demarcus Ware’s nine year long love affair with Dallas finally came to an end as he made a switch to the Broncos. The defensive end and linebacker is a seven – time Pro Bowler and anall-time leader in forced fumbles and sacks for the Dallas Cowboys. Even at the age of 31, he is prepared to compete at the highest level. His defensive pairing with Von Miller will definitely give opposition attackers a hard time.

Aqib Talib

TheBroncos have lashed out a total $57 million by signing Aqib Talib on a six year contract. Talib will receive a guaranteed of $26 million as per the terms of the contract. Talib has shown flashes of brilliance during his career but struggled with the loss of form and injury problems. He is also popular for the wrong reasons due to his off the field issues.

TJ Ward

The Broncos have struggled in recent times due to their defensive weaknesses but the team has finally made a move to solve the issue by signing TJ Ward. Ward will play as a number 2 behind Jairus Byrd. This deal means a lot to the Denver’s side as they bagged a good player on a reasonable deal.

There are still five weeks till the 2014 NFL Draft and teams are active both on the field and off the field. These signings will definitely leave a huge impact on the team’s performances this season.
