Eagles were trying very hard to trade up to the first overall pick; Bucs liked Jameis too much
Philadelphia Eagles head Chip Kelly loves Marcus Mariota. We already knew that, but he tried to get all the way up from No. 20 in last week’s draft to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ No. 1 pick to grab Marcus Mariota. But they never thought twice about passing on Jameis.
Jason Licht the Buccaneers general manager even explained;
“There was communication with them,” Bucs general manager Jason Licht told USA TODAY Sports on Saturday. “We definitely didn’t think twice about it.”
Jameis Winston will be entrenched as the starter for a long time, but it is pretty cool to see the GM talk about it.
