NFL Draft Diamonds Spotlight Interview: TaBrian Resby, LB, Howard

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

The majority of the D1-AA schools, and a perferred walk-on to Mississippi State. But I ended up going the JuCo (Georgia Military College) route because I was a non-qualifier.

How did you come to make your college decision?

(Appalachian State, South Florida, Middle Tennessee, LA Tech, Georgia Southern, Gardner Webb.) I made my decision to come to Howard because I felt it would give me the best opportunity to reach all of my goals, and the schools rich history of cultivating people.

Where are you training, and what are your goals for pro day/combines?

I’m training at school and at Enhanced Training in Maryland. My goals is to put up top numbers in the country so a team can fall in love with me.

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

Yes I’ve met with a lot of scouts. And I’ve been told to basically, “have a good pro day”. So I’m concentrating on the things I can control.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

At my position I feel what separates me from others is, my ability to diagnosis plays and athleticism to play every down in space.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?

When breaking down film, I look for all the top plays out of each formation, run to pass tendencies, play calls by down and distance, and then I breakdown personnel. really I dissect everything so my team can have the upper hand.

Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?

The toughest player I’ve played against is kind of hard to say, I’ve played against a lot of really good guys and don’t want to leave anybody out.

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?

I’m not really the one to compare myself because I try to take something from all those NFL guys we look up to. My teammates started saying I played like Navorro Bowman because I would be everywhere on the field and around the ball. Also, b/c I came to Howard and played beside FCS juggernaut Keith Pough. So I thought that was tight.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest obstacle I had to overcome is probably going to Georgia Military College and actually making it out. But it was worth it.

What system fits your style of play the best?

I feel like I can adjust to any system and style of play so I can’t really pinpoint one.

What is your biggest strength?

My biggest strength is probably my diagnosing plays and being able to play in space.

What is your biggest weakness?

My biggest weakness would probably be my size, but most times it works as strength for me.

If I were a GM and gave you a minute to sell yourself, what would you say?

I would say, All I can ask for is an opportunity to prove myself. I’m not a guy you have to worry about, and I believe in good old fashion hard work.

Growing up, who was your role model?

Growing up my role model was and still is my environment. Just seeing people work their tails off and still struggle. that motivates me to want more and do more.

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?

My favorite team growing up was the Ravens, because of the way they dominated and dictated on defense. My favorite player was Ray Lewis because of his love for the game and others around him.

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?

The 3 people I would go to dinner with? Jesus, the brother was smooth, Tupac Shakur, and my grandmother.

What would you buy with your first NFL paycheck?

With my first NFL check I really don’t know what I would buy. Hopefully nothing!
