Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Marquell Rozier, OL, UNC Pembroke

Marquelle Rozier might be one of the biggest all around lineman in the entire NFL Draft.  Rozier stands at 6’7 and weighs in at 360 pounds.  Rozier was a stand out lineman for Bethune-Cookman University before transferring to UNC- Pembroke.  Rozier started in all 9 games this year for the Braves.  This kid is a monster, you have to watch the film on him.  SENIOR HIGHLIGHT

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

Not many. I didn’t have the best of grades. But a lot of HBCU’s wanted in the NC area. NCA&T, NCCU, etc.

Where did you choose and why?

I chose Bethune Cookman Univ. (BCU) mainly because I never been to Florida.

What were your goals for your senior year?

My goals for my senior year were to go out and have fun.

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

I haven’t met with any scouts since being at BCU, when I was a junior. I was told I have nice size.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

As an offensive lineman what separates me from others is knowledge of the game and studying a lot of film to know my opponent.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?

When studying film I look at defensive lineman’s moves on each down. Especially 3rd down and any tips on how defenses blitz.

Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?

Sophomore Yr. 2nd Rd NCAA FCS playoffs. Defensive End from New Hampshire. Lets just say my o-line coach was in my ear the whole game.

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?

I watched a lot of Chance Warmack film when I made the transition from Tackle to Guard. But no comparison.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

Weight issue. I was big coming into college and I had to learn to move with it and work to get it off.

What system fits your style of play the best?

I like the spread offenses. the zone blocking and I’m very good at pass blocking so I don’t mind gun slinging scheme.

What is your biggest strength?

Biggest strength would be my confidence level. No fear mentality.

What is your biggest weakness?

Biggest weakness is probably is probably my size.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

I’m a hard working. Don’t cause any trouble. I just show up and do my job.

Growing up, who was your role model?

My mom was my role model. True definition of a hard worker. Never complained.

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?

Favorite team is the Carolina Panthers. Favorite player to watch growing up was Walter Jones. One of the best offensive tackles ever.

What was the most tragic event that ever happened in your life and how did you overcome it?

I would say getting hurt and having knee surgery

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?

Ray Lewis, Vince Lombardi, and Brian Dawkins

With your first paycheck what would you buy?

My mom a nice house.
