Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Jared Biard, OL, Colorado State 

Started all 14 games for the Rams at right tackle and helped propel the Rams to their most productive offensive performance in school history. Jared was key cog in a veteran offensive front for a unit that set the highest total offensive yards per game average (470.8),most points in a single season (507), most single-season yards (6,591) and second-most single-season touchdowns (63). 

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

Out of high school I was recruited by a plethora of schools via mail, when it came down to visits and narrowing down my choices the top 5 schools that recruited me was Colorado State, Oklahoma State, University of Arizona, University of Texas at El Paso and University of Houston

What were your goals for your senior year?

My goals for the past season and semester was to be the best offensive lineman I could be and for me and my brothers(teammates) to make and win a bowl game, something that had not occurred at Colorado State during my tenure. I also wanted to succeed academically and graduate in December which I did

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

I have not personally meet with any scouts, I hope they are saying good things.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

I believe as a offensive lineman what separates me from others is my tenacity and aggression at blocking and also my perseverance to be the best I can be whether that be overcoming injuries or improving my technique.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?

When breaking down film of opponents I look at over all scheme first, things like safety rotation and coverage tendencies so I can be better prepared at seeing pressures before they happen. Then I look at personnel tendencies like stance and pass rush moves for defensive linemen and tendencies of backers whether they like to jump around blocks or go through blockers.

Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?

The toughest player I ever played against would be Alex Okafor in high school

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?

Logan Mankins would be who I would aspire to be, I hope to match his physicality and toughness that he displays on Sundays.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest obstacle I have ever had to overcome in life would be coming back from ACL reconstructive surgery my sophomore year of college and earning the starting job my junior year with no previous starting experience. I overcame this set back by doing exactly what my medical training staff told me to do and pushing myself everyday physically to come back better than ever.

What system fits your style of play the best?

Any system would fit my style of play, I do however love to run block so running the ball is always a plus

What is your biggest strength?

My biggest strength as a player would be my attitude and commitment to excel and improve constantly on my effort and technique, complacency in ones ability is the devil.

What is your biggest weakness?

My biggest weakness as a player would be allowing my technique to slip when I am tired.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

Work Ethic, I would elaborate on how this attribute I posses helped me succeed on and off the field in life and how through this attribute I would be beneficial to his team.

Growing up, who was your role model?

My hero growing up was and still is my father, he is a self made man who by dedication and a tireless work ethic built himself a great family and home.

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why?

My favorite team and player in the NFL would be the Seattle Seahawks and Marshawn Lynch. He might not be the biggest dog in the fight but as you can see by his runs he has the biggest fight on the field.

What is the most tragic situation you have ever had to over come?

The most tragic event that ever occurred in my life was the passing of my mother’s sister Cindy Whitton and father T.H Cox in the span of two years, I have dealt with hurricanes and other disasters but to see my mother after her sister passed and father was something that ate at the very core of my soul. I dealt with this by being there for my mom and extended family as best as I could whether that be just being a shoulder to cry on and a phone call to grandma or by helping out around our house more than normal.

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?

The three people I would love to have dinner with dead or alive would be Niccolo Machiavelli, Karl Marx and Teddy Roosevelt. Discussing ideological philosophies and political thoughts with these three men would be astounding because all three differ in so many ways. Hopefully it would be a very long dinner.

With your first paycheck what would you buy

With my first pay check I would pay my rent and buy something for my mother and father as a token of appreciation for all they have done, with whatever was left I would save and invest.
