Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Dezmond Beverly, TE, Arkansas Pine-Bluff

Dezmond Beverly has been the best small school tight end over the past several years.  He has led the UAPB offense in receiving the past three years and is a force in the middle of the field.  At 6’2, 200 pounds, Beverly is more of an H-Back/Receiver.  His hands are as good if not better than most wide receivers in the FCS.  Beverly is still trying to prove himself after an amazing junior season when he scored 6 touchdowns.

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

Where did you choose and why?

I chose the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff because they made me feel welcome my first visit at the institution.

What were your goals for your senior year?

To be a leader both on and off the field and to compete at the highest level every time I step on the field.

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

Yes I have met with a few scouts and the complimented my size, ball skills, catching and aggressiveness.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

My size and ball skills separate me from other receivers. The ability to play both slot and outside receiver separates me as well.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film? 

I mainly look for the defensive back’s technique and his back pedal. I also look to see the base coverage and any disguises that they defense may show.

Who was the toughest player you have ever faced?

The toughest player I ever faced were my teammates James Harrell and Ryan Shaw, they are the only DB that gave me a real challenge.

If you could compare your play to one person in the NFL who would it be?

Brandon Marshall

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest obstacle was moving to a new place and being on my own for the first time. With prayer and a focus mindset I was able to overcome that obstacle and successfully make that transition.

What system fits your style of play the best?

I am able to fit in any system and make a big difference.

What is your biggest strength?

The ability to get open, reading defenses and my ability to catch the ball.

What is your biggest weakness?

Playing without the ball

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

I’m serious about this profession and I will give 110% in everything I do.

Growing up, who was your role model?

My grandfather and Uncle

Who was your favorite team and player in the NFL and why? 

My favorite team is the New Orleans Saints, and my favorite players are Brandon Marshall, Marshawn Lynch, and Terron Armstead

What was the most tragic event that ever happened in your life and how did you overcome it?

I have been fortunate enough to not have anything to tragic ever happen to me but for little tragedies perseverance and prayer are my tools for overcoming tragic events.

If you were to have dinner with three people dead or alive who would it be?

Jesus, Michael Jordan, and Martin Luther King

With your first paycheck what would you buy?

A 96 Impala SS
