Cleveland Browns are given permission to interview Jim O’Neil for their DC opening

The Buffalo Bills granted the Cleveland Browns permission Monday to interview Bills linebackers coach Jim O’Neil for the Browns’ defensive coordinator position.

O’Neil followed Browns coach Mike Pettine from the New York Jets to the Bills last season when Pettine became Buffalo’s defensive coordinator. Pettine was hired by the Browns last week.

After eight seasons as a college assistant coach, O’Neil joined the Jets in 2009 as a quality control coach and was promoted to assistant defensive backs coach in 2010.
