Clay Matthews has hurt his thumb once again, could require more exams

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews injured his right thumb on Sunday the same way he did the first time, while sacking a quarterback.

He was taken the locker room in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after he sacked Ben Roethlisberger. It was the 50th sack of Matthews’ career. His return was questionable.

Several weeks ago Matthews broke his right thumb and missed four games.  The surgery required was to have pins placed in the bone to stabilize the injury. Matthews wore a club when he returned, and eventually lowered it to a smaller cast.  He was wearing the smaller cast today, but his return is not likely in this game.
