Chiefs GM spoke to Alex Smith twice before trading up for Patrick Mahomes
Chiefs general manager John Dorsey told NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” that the team spoke twice to Smith before making the decision to draft quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

It sure sounds like the Chiefs are taking the Aaron Rodgers approach with Mahomes. Smith even told Mahomes that he would help.
“He told me to come in and work hard as I can,” Mahomes said of Alex. “He said he’s going to be there in my corner as well and teach me as I go. It’s the type of guy he is. He’s a great leader.”
This is great to see. It sounds like the Chiefs organization handled the situation very good, and all parties seem happy.
