Lions have hired former Texans OC George Godsey; Just not as an offensive coach…

The Lions have hired former Texans offensive coordinator George Godsey as a defensive assistant/special projects, the club announced today.

Godsey, 38, first entered the NFL with the Patriots in 2011, and had spent the past three seasons with the Texans, serving as offensive coordinator from 2015-16. After being let go by Houston earlier this year, Godsey was a candidate for the Jets’ OC vacancy, and was also linked to the University of Alabama.

Godsey played quarterback in college at Georgia Tech, where he holds several school records, and for one season in the Arena Football League before becoming a coach. He first coached at Central Florida and then the NFL’s New England Patriots before joining the Texans.

Texans will not use their Franchise Tag on CB A.J. Bouye

AJ Bouye will likely become a free agent

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans are unlikely to use their tag on A.J. Bouye or anyone else from the team. If they did Bouye would make 14 million for the 2017 NFL season.  The Texans are projected to have around 25 million in cap space to work with this off-season, so this move is a smart one for them.  Bouye however will likely demand some nice coin. He had a wonderful season for the Texans. Remember he was an undrafted free agent from the University of Central Florida.

Bouye played in 15 games and made 11 starts for the Texans last year and led the team with 16 passes defensed.

Texans cut Charles James after he slipped giving up a TD; Claim former Steelers CB

I highly doubt Charles James will be out of football long.

I highly doubt Charles James will be out of football long.

The Houston Texans sent waves through the locker room today when they released cornerback Charles James.  James came into the game for the Texans this past weekend and gave up a touchdown to Jordy Nelson.  Charles slipped in the snow unfortunately leaving Jordy Nelson wide open in the back of the end zone.

The Texans released James today, sending a message to the rest of the team.  In a corresponding move the team claimed Al-Haji Shabazz off the waivers from the Steelers.

Andre Johnson has retired from the NFL after 14 seasons

Today Andre Johnson the former Houston Texans draft pick and future Hall of Famer walked away from the NFL after 14 seasons.

Jon Robinson, the General Manager of the Titans has retired:

“Going back to his days at the University of Miami, Andre was one of the most impressive wide receivers I’ve scouted,” Titans general manager Jon Robinson said in a statement. “He had a professional approach to the game both on and off the field and in my opinion is one of the best to have played the game. I enjoyed getting to know and work with him in his time with our team. He certainly contributed to this team — making the game-winning catch at Detroit and his daily interaction with the young wide receivers. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward in whatever endeavors he chooses.”

He finishes with career totals of 1,062 catches for 14,185 yards and 70 receiving touchdowns.

Report: JJ Watt could be done for the year after re-injuring his back

According to the NY Daily News, J.J. Watt the Houston Texans superstar defender could be out the rest of the season after he re-injured his back.

Watt missed Houston’s four preseason games after surgery in July to repair a herniated disk in his back. He started each of the team’s three regular-season games and got hurt again Thursday against the Patriots.

If this is in fact true, it would be a huge loss for the Texans.
