Panthers have signed DE Mario Addison to a three year deal

Panthers re-sign Mario Addison to a 3-year worth $22.5M deal.

Addison has 9.5 career sacks. This is a good deal for him. He was expected to become a free agent. The Panthers are happy to get him back.

“Mario has shown he is one of the best emerging pass rushers in the league and he deserves this contract,” Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said in a team statement. “He consistently affects the quarterback, and we envision an increased role for him in our defense.”

Panthers worked out veteran WR Victor Cruz

According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, the Carolina Panthers worked out Victor Cruz the former New York Giant wide out.

Anderson is reporting that Cruz left without a deal in place. I think this would be a great addition to the Panthers.

Panthers will work out small school WR Gavin Lutman today

Panthers wide out Gavin Lutman will work out for the Panthers

Today the Carolina Panthers are working out Gavin Lutman the former Pittsburg State wide receiver.  Lutman has played for the Vikings and the Titans previously.

Lutman is a 6’4 wide out with great hands. He spent some time on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL last season.

Where his pro day would have ranked among wide receivers had he done the same performance at the combine:

  • 40 yard time: 4.46 seconds. That would rank 17th out of the 39 receivers that ran, 0.01 seconds slower than probable top two receiver off the board, DaVante Parker.
  • 3-Cone Drill: 6.65 seconds would have ranked 3rd among receivers at the combine.
  • Shuttle: 4.09 seconds would have been 6th among receivers at the combine.
  • Vertical: 36 inches would have been 20th among receivers at the combine.
  • Broad Jump: 10’5″ would have been 6th among receivers at the combine.

Richard Sherman says “Karma” is eating the Panthers and Cam Newton

This week Cam Newton will face the Seattle Seahawks and one player ready for the match-up is Richard Sherman. The former Stanford defensive back is ready to get some revenge on the Panthers and QB Cam Newton after the loss they suffered last season in the playoffs. In the process, Seattle can pretty much guarantee that the struggling Panthers won’t earn a postseason spot this season.

“I guess karma gets you. Doesn’t look like they are going to the playoffs this year,” Sherman said, via Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times.

Sherman is taking about Newton taking the Seahawks 12th man flag and throwing it away following Carolina’s 31-24 win over Seattle in the NFC Divisional playoffs.

Panthers have signed DE Wes Horton; Waived WR Damiere Byrd

Panthers have released defensive end Wes Horton

Panthers have re-signed former pass rusher Wes Horton

Panthers have brought back defensive end Wes Horton on a one-year deal after waiving wide receiver Damiere Byrd.

Horton has played 34 games for Carolina over the past three seasons, recording six sacks and 41 tackles. He was released prior to the start of the regular season and has not yet played in 2016.

Horton was suspended for four games by the National Football League for violating the NFL Performance Enhancement Drug Policy after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, which is why he was released.

Byrd played college football at the University of South Carolina for the South Carolina Gamecocks, and was signed as an undrafted free agent. He did not have any stats as an NFL player.
