Carolina’s curse could keep going if Cam win’s Madden Cover
The final round of the fan-voted contest for the cover of Madden NFL 15 is underway, pitting defensive back Richard Sherman of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks versus Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
The Carolina Panther’s however cannot afford a curse like recent Madden Cover owners have encountered. They already had four of their starting five offensive lineman quit football, along with the exit of Steve Smith. If things work out and Cam wins, it will be a great win, but could crush the Panthers hopes of another playoff run.
Voting will end on Friday and the winner will be announced in the 6 p.m. ET edition of ESPN’s SportsCenter. This year’s contest is a trimmed-down version of a promotion that, in years past, featured candidate pools as large as 64 players.
Newton was the runner-up to Calvin Johnson for the cover of Madden NFL 13. Sherman, the best cornerback in the NFL, is in his contest debut. The only defensive player to have the Madden NFL cover all to himself was Baltimore’s Ray Lewis 10 years ago, in Madden NFL 2005.
Madden NFL 15 launches Aug. 26 for PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
