Today both the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets named their starting quarterbacks for week 1. The Buffalo Bills and the media had been pushing Jeff Tuel an undrafted free agent out of Washington State as the starter, but we at NFL Draft Diamonds felt different. According to our sources about 10 days ago we heard that EJ Manuel would be the starter and was on pace to start. People doubted our sources, but we are pleased to inform you, HE IS STARTING.
EJ Manuel will face Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. This will not be an easy task, since the Bills record versus Tom Brady and company is horrible. Well this is only the second time in the Bills history they start a rookie quarterback that they drafted in the first round week 1. EJ Manuel will have a lot to prove, but he does give the Bills the best chance to win.
On the Jets roster, Geno Smith has passed Mark Sanchez as the starting quarterback for week 1. After a dumb move by Rex Ryan to play Mark Sanchez in garbage time of a preseason game, Sanchez was injured when he was hit by multiple New York Giants defenders. Now the Jets are going into the season relying on a quarterback who stunk it up in preseason. Geno threw 3 interceptions in one half and then followed it up by running out of the back of the endzone for a safety.
While neither of these quarterbacks are what you would say “READY”, we want to know which quarterback will do better? I think that the Buffalo Bills roster is in a better state right now than the Jets. If the Bills can establish a run game and get the defense to step up with new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, the Bills could win this football game. One thing is for sure, if EJ Manuel beats the Patriots, he could go down as a legend after his first career start. The Bills fan base cannot stand the Patriots, and this would be a huge first game for the rookie.
