I have been watching football for a long time, and I have never seen an athlete do the things Adrian Peterson has done. Emmitt Smith was a great player, he had great vision, and agility to pick up the extra yards. He was a good receiver out the back field, and had a nose for the endzone. Barry Sanders was the most elusive player to ever play the game, but lacked the power to pick up the extra yards. OJ Simpson had the speed and agility but really lacked the power to just truck someone. Walter Payton is really the only player that can compare with Adrian Peterson. If you look at stats though, there is no question that unless something catastrophic happens to AP, he will break all the rushing records known to man.
Walter Payton in 13 seasons had 3838 rushing attempts for 16,726 yards which is 4.4 yards per carry over a career. That is an amazing statistic especially when you factor in that he added 110 touchdowns on the ground.
Peterson on the other hand, is a stronger, bigger, faster, running back with better vision. In just 7 years as a starter in the NFL, AP has 9,700 yards on 1948 carries, and is averaging 5 yards a carry. He already has 85 rushing touchdowns, which is on pace to humiliate Payton’s record.
Peterson if he plays 13 season like Walter Payton, his projected stats would be 3,622 rushing attempts for 18,016 yards and 157 touchdowns. Ladies and Gentlemen you are watching the best running back ever to life, cherish this moment.
