The San Francisco 49ers reportedly already have a deal in place with the Denver Broncos for quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The problem is that the Broncos need to figure out the cap situation with Kaepernick before making a move.
Broncos and Kaepernick have to agree on who will pay the quarterback’s $11.9 million guaranteed salary for this upcoming season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The Broncos are willing to pay $7 million a source confirmed to ESPN. But Denver and Kaepernick would like the San Francisco to pay the remaining $4.9 million and the 49ers have been unwilling according to a source, believing they should not have to pay for a player they’d like to keep on their roster. Kaepernick has also been unwilling to forfeit the $4.9 million to make the deal work, according to a source.
If you were the 49ers would you really want to keep Kaepernick? At this point, they could move up and get the best quarterback in the draft, or stay put and have a great shot at getting one of the top 3 quarterback.
The Titans would like to trade out of #1, but trading the #Chargers at number three makes more sense for the 49ers to trade up if they are going too. That way the 49ers could get one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft, and jump the Cowboys who could select a quarterback with the 4th pick.
If the 49ers are willing to pay the 4.9 million then, I would say they definitely want him gone.
