49ers have fired assistant GM Tom Gamble; Team meets with Colin Kaepernick
The 49ers are getting rid of the old and turning a page. John Lynch fired assistant general manager Tom Gamble and will move on doing work alone.
The 49ers announced the move on the team website, with new GM John Lynch making the following statement:
“The 49ers organization has tremendous respect and appreciation for Tom Gamble and his many years of service,” said General Manager John Lynch. “He is a class act who has helped a great deal in this transition, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him. After working together over the last month, Tom and I agreed that it would be in both of our best interests for him to pursue other opportunities. Tom is a true professional and we wish him and his family great success in the future.”
Now comes this report from CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco indicating that Kaepernick has indeed visited the 49ers’ headquarters, presumably to meet with Shanahan and new general manager John Lynch.
“Quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who faces an uncertain future with the 49ers, visited team headquarters in Santa Clara on Wednesday morning, according to a league source,” Maiocco reported on Wednesday. “Kaepernick was likely there to meet with 49ers general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan for the first time since they were hired to replace Trent Baalke and Chip Kelly.”
