Could the Cardinals draft Kyler Murray and keep Josh Rosen?

The NFL Draft is quickly approaching and one of the worst kept secrets in the entire NFL is that the Arizona Cardinals want to draft Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the first overall selection.

New Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury made a comment when he was coaching in college about Kyler Murray and that has really stuck in the minds of everyone. He said:

“I’d take him with the first pick in the draft, if I could,” Kingsbury told communications staffers at Tech. “I know he’s signed up to play baseball, but he’s a dominant football player. I would take him with the first pick.”

That comment has ultimately place Kyler Murray number one overall by everyone, especially in league circles. I have talked to many who believe the Cardinals selecting Kyler Murray has been done for weeks. Every website including NFL betting lines at 888 sportsbook have Kyler Murray going number one overall.

Now the problem they have is what do they do with former UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen, who they selected last year with their first round pick?

Many are saying they are going to trade him, and the Redskins are a possibility, or maybe the Patriots and Giants want him, but let’s face it. The Cardinals may not get that first round pick they want for him because everyone knows he is going to be available. Murray has only visited three teams so far on pre-draft visits that we are aware of, that was the Giants, Redskins and Cardinals.

We recently heard that the Chargers are a sleeper team and could be looking at a possible long term replacement for Philip Rivers. I loved Josh Rosen coming out of college, I was a huge fan of his and honestly, I was hoping my Buffalo Bills would draft pick when they took Josh Allen, but I am glad the cards fell they way they did. But what if Josh Rosen cannot be moved?

What if the Cardinals did the inevitable? What if they kept him?

The Cardinals would have to deal with him in the locker room, but what if the Cardinals kept him on the roster until some quarterback around the league went down? You know it happens. It happens every year, and teams are willing to give up draft picks for quarterbacks, especially solid and young quarterbacks. Could the Cardinals get a higher draft pick later on in the season if they plan to hold onto Rosen? These are the questions the Cardinals are asking themselves right now.

While the Cardinals fanbase wants a first round pick for Rosen, they may not get one. Then you have to ask yourself, what is plan B? Josh Rosen will be the talk of the draft, especially if the Carinals do in fact pull the trigger on Kyler Murray number 1 overall!
