Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Gerald McCoy looks like a goner in Tampa, and we found five teams where he would be a great fit

Tampa Bay Buccaneers are likely to trade Gerald McCoy, but what team makes the most sense? We found five teams that could make a trade for him and give him a new contract.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy’s absence during the team’s voluntary portion of the offseason workout program continues.

The Buccaneers are likely to trade McCoy before the start of the season, it looks more and more like he is not happy. McCoy has three years remaining on his contract, which pays a base salary of $13 million in 2019. The 31 year old pass rusher has three years left on his deal and he likely would like a new deal. He is a very solid player I am just not sure too many teams will be willing to give him tons of money. But I found five teams that make a ton of sense to land Gerald McCoy.

Indianapolis Colts – The Colts currently make the most sense to trade for Gerald McCoy. Right now they have Denico Autry and Margus Hunt on the defensive line, don’t get me wrong, they are solid players but Gerald McCoy has 54.5 career sacks. The Colts have the cap space and they are trying to get better.

Houston Texans – The Texans really use a 3-4 nose, but imagine putting Gerald McCoy on the line with JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney? Are you kidding me? The Texans have the second most cap space in the NFL right now and this move makes sense. The Texans have the offensive weapons to be successful, but they need to solidify their defense if they want to win the AFC South.

Kansas City Chiefs – The Chiefs have Chris Jones the best young upcoming pass-rushing defensive tackle in the NFL, if you add McCoy to that defensive line, they would be powerful. They only have around 23 million dollars in cap space, but they could give McCoy an extension and put more money in guaranteed to ensure they open up room to give Chris Jones down the road.

Miami Dolphins – The Dolphins defensive lineman are suspect, and they have tons of cap space. If the Colts pass on McCoy I could see the Dolphins making tons of sense. Brian Flores is a defensive minded guy and let’s face it, you will not find a guy like McCoy in the second round. I think that is what it will take to land McCoy.

Tennessee Titans – The final destination for me is the Tennessee Titans. Mike Vrabel landing Gerald McCoy next to Jurrell Casey? Are you kidding me that would be one of the nastiest defensive fronts in the NFL. The Titans, Texans and Colts are all on this list. I could have added the Jaguars as well, but the Titans make more sense because they have the cap space to give McCoy.
