If New York Giants take Daniel Jones at 6 overall would you be shocked?
NFL Network draft insider Daniel Jeremiah has Duke’s Daniel Jones as the fourth-highest- rated quarterback on his board but still, has him going sixth overall to the Giants, and his explanation isn’t about Jones’ physical tools, but the Giants love for him rather.
Jones threw 22 touchdown passes, nine interceptions and completed 60.5% of his passes for 2,674 yards as a junior with the Blue Devils in 2018. Jones was also coached by David Cutcliffe.
Cutcliffe was Peyton Manning’s quarterback’s coach and offensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee, and Eli Manning’s head coach at Ole Miss. “My dad had the biggest impact on me, but after that, it was Coach Cut,” Peyton says. “Because he got me from [age] 18 to 22 and developed me.”
The Giants have 38-year-old Eli Manning in place as the starting quarterback, although he is entering the final year of his contract and has guided the team to the playoffs just once in the last seven years.
Manning may be in charge of the 2019 campaign, but whichever quarterback the Giants draft—assuming they do so—will be tasked with anchoring the backfield with running back Saquon Barkley for years to come, so here is my question, is taking Daniel Jones at 6 a reach?
If you want a quarterback there is no such thing as a reach, so I want to know what you think? Is it a reach at 6 overall?
