What Quarterbacks Will Get Drafted?

By. Steve Hamner

Over the past 5 drafts, there has been an average of 11.8 quarterbacks drafted per draft class. Let’s go ahead and round up that number up to 12, so the average is 12 quarterbacks taken in each draft in the past 5 drafts. Since 2009 the most quarterbacks drafted in a single year has been 15 with the least amount of QB’s drafted being 7. This number does not include the amount of undrafted free agents that make the team, or practice squad and eventually get up to the 53-man roster. Every year there seem to be at least 1-2 (sometimes more) undrafted quarterbacks that stick around. I say all this to emphasize the fact of how challenging it really is to get drafted. There were 17 quarterbacks invited to the 2019 NFL combine and not all of them will get drafted. Sure, they will all end up in camp somewhere and will have a chance to make it, but not all of them will get drafted. Based off of quarterback-needy teams and the quarterbacks available in this years’ draft, I see 13-14 quarterbacks getting drafted this year. However, I think there could be several legit undrafted free agent quarterbacks that could have a chance to stick around, which we will cover in a few days.

Below is a brief clip of each quarterback that I think will get drafted. For a more detailed breakdown on each guy, check our website, where we have analyzed each guys film.

1.Kyler Murray

2. Dwayne Haskins

3. Drew Lock

4. Daniel Jones

5. Ryan Finley

6. Will Grier

7. Jarrett Stidham

8.  Kyle Shurmur

9. Clayton Thorson

10. Brett Rypien

11. Tyree Jackson

12. Easton Stick

13. Eric Dungey

14. Taylor Cornelius

I want to state, I think there are some lesser-known quarterbacks out there that could have the potential to become better than some of the guys on this list. Just because I left some guys off this list does not mean I don’t think they could end up being quality quarterbacks, just that there is not enough room for everyone and these are the guys I think to get drafted. I would not be surprised to see Fitzgerald from Mississippi State get drafted and developed at another position, I am not sure if a quarterback-needy team will take him at the quarterback position. The same can be said about Trace McSorley from Penn State as well. While it will be interesting to see where each guy lands, there will be a handful of undrafted guys that we will be keeping our eye on.
